Field Training
Technician Ride-Along Program
Get real, hands-on experience riding along with an experienced Virginia Appliance Repair LLC senior technician — live diagnostics, real customer homes, and the parts of this trade no classroom can teach. This is a paid, observational program, not a substitute for formal trade school, and it doesn't guarantee a job or a certification.
Call (571) 701-4423What You'll Learn
Live Diagnostics
Watch the full diagnostic process on real appliances — reading symptoms, testing components, and confirming the actual fault before anything gets touched.
Real Repairs, Real Homes
See parts replaced and installed on live jobs, then walk through why — what failed, why that was the fix, and what to check before calling it done.
Customer Communication
Learn how to talk through a problem in someone's kitchen, set expectations, and answer questions the way a homeowner actually wants them answered.
Honest Estimating
How to quote a job and earn the work — without the upsell. This is the single most important thing we do differently, and it's the one thing worth learning right.
Safety on the Job
Practical safety habits for the technician, the customer's home, and their property — not textbook theory.
The Details Nobody Teaches
The small professional habits that build trust fast: where to park, how to walk into a home, how to leave a job site better than you found it.
How It Works
- Apply first. Tell us a bit about yourself below. Because you'll be present in real customers' homes, every applicant goes through a short review before a spot is confirmed.
- Sold in week-long blocks. You commit to however many weeks fit — full field days, riding alongside one senior technician throughout.
- Observation-based. You'll see everything live — diagnostics, repairs, customer conversations — without performing repairs yourself.
- Daily debriefs. Between calls, we talk through what just happened and why, so the learning doesn't stop when the job does.
- Spots are limited. We pair one trainee with one senior technician at a time, so we can only take on a few people at once — apply early if you have specific weeks in mind.
Requirements
- 18 years or older, with a valid photo ID
- Genuine interest in appliance repair as a trade — no prior experience required
- Must pass a background check before a spot is confirmed
- Comfortable spending full days on the road and in customers' homes
Want to Go Further?
Start Your Own Appliance Repair Company
The ride-along teaches you the trade. If you're serious about running your own shop instead of working for someone else's, we've done it — and for technicians who complete the program, we'll help you build the same foundation we run on.
The Trade
Everything in the ride-along program — real diagnostics, real repairs, real customer homes, taught the way we actually work.
The Back Office
The operational systems a repair company actually runs on — scheduling, dispatch, job tracking, invoicing, customer communication. We built ours from scratch with our technology partner, CodeBridge, and they can build the same foundation for you.
See what CodeBridge builds →The Playbook
How we price a job, how we talk to customers, how we handle a repair-or-replace call honestly — the parts of running this business that aren't on a spec sheet.
This is a newer path we're opening up, so scope and pricing are worked out case by case — mention it in your application and we'll talk through what fits. Spots here are limited too, since it only works with senior technicians who have the time to mentor someone through it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I receive a certification?
You'll get a written record of your participation — dates, hours, and what was covered. It documents that you completed the program; it isn't a professional certification or license, and it doesn't guarantee employment.
Do I need prior experience?
No. This program is built for people genuinely interested in the trade, whether you're just starting out or already have some background.
Will I be doing repairs myself?
This is an observational program — you'll be alongside a senior technician on real jobs, not performing repairs yourself. That's by design, and it's part of what keeps this program straightforward for everyone involved.
What does it cost, and how long does it run?
Program length and pricing depend on availability and how many weeks you're looking to commit to. Apply below and we'll follow up with current rates and openings.
Is there a screening process?
Yes. Because you'll be present in real customers' homes, applicants go through a short review — including a background check — before a spot is confirmed.
Can you help me start my own appliance repair company?
For technicians who want to go further, yes — we've built our own scheduling, dispatch, and customer systems from the ground up, and we can build that same operational foundation for your company too. Mention it in your application and we'll talk through what that looks like.
