Does Virginia have a right-to-repair law for appliances?
Not yet. A bill covering electronics and appliance repair access was introduced in the 2026 General Assembly session and didn't advance out of committee. Virginia doesn't currently mandate the parts and documentation access that states like New York, California, and Washington now require.
Will using an independent repair company instead of the manufacturer void my warranty?
Not automatically — federal law (the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) already prohibits manufacturers from voiding a warranty just because you used an independent repair shop. If you're not sure what's covered, bring us your model and serial number and we'll help you check before recommending anything.
Are your technicians factory certified?
For several major brands, yes — we're factory certified for LG, Whirlpool, Liebherr, Dacor, and GE Appliances, and we're the sole certified technicians in the area for Asko, Scotsman, Dacor, and Viking. For brands outside that list, we're upfront that we're not the authorized dealer.
What repairs should I never attempt myself, law or no law?
Anything involving line voltage electrical work, gas lines, or a sealed refrigerant system. Those carry real safety risk regardless of how available the parts or documentation are, and they're not repairs where getting it mostly right is good enough.
