Will vinegar fix cloudy, hard-water-spotted glasses?

A cup of white vinegar run on a hot cycle with no dishes can cut through some existing mineral film and is worth trying once. It won't fix the cause, though — if your water is hard, the spotting comes back. A rinse aid formulated for hard water and, in persistent cases, a water softener are the actual long-term fixes.

How often should I clean the dishwasher filter?

Every 2 to 4 weeks for most households, more often if you run the dishwasher daily or rarely scrape plates before loading. It's a 30-second job once you know where it is, and it's the single most common thing we find un-done on a service call.

My dishes are clean but still smell bad — is that the same issue?

Usually not. A lingering odor with otherwise clean dishes is more often standing water in the sump or a buildup in the door gasket than a cleaning failure. Worth a mention on the phone if it's happening alongside residue.
